What is The Flame of Love of the Immaculate Heart of Mary?
1. It is Jesus Himself
Mary: “You have to seek a refuge for my Flame of Love, which is Jesus Christ himself.”
2. It is the Devotion of Grace
The devotion is not as much focused on messages or a messenger as on calling the Church to all the great practices of Grace we have always had but often neglect:
Intense Prayer; eliminating the entertainment and noise that distract us; increased participation in Mass and Adoration; regular Fasting; Sacrifices in love on behalf of others; Night Vigils; a continuous spirit of Humility and Repentance; complete dedication to the Salvation of Souls; Embracing our Sufferings to participate in the redemptive life of Jesus.
Mary: “I assure you, my little one, that I have never before given into your hands such a powerful force of grace, the burning flame of the love of my heart. Ever since the Word became Flesh, I have not undertaken a greater movement than the Flame of Love of my heart who rushes to you.“
Mary: “There has never been a time of grace like this since the Word became Flesh.”
Jesus: “By her [Mary’s] powerful intercession, she obtained from Me for families this great effusion of grace, which she also wants to extend to the whole world. As she said: ‘Nothing comparable to this has happened ever since the Word became Flesh.’”
3. It is Mary’s Plan for Evangelization in a world that no longer listens
Where Jesus is powerfully present by the outpouring of Grace, Satan loses his influence just as when Jesus and the Apostles walked the Earth. When the Church is filled with Christians who are Jesus through the fullness of Grace, the world will notice, be freed of Satan, and be able to hear again.
[Jesus] spoke to me at length about the time of grace and the Spirit of Love quite comparable to the first Pentecost, flooding the earth with its power. That will be the great miracle drawing the attention of all humanity. All that is the effusion of the effect of grace of the Blessed Virgin’s Flame of Love.
. . . . this priest understood the essential message, which is ‘to blind Satan.’ This is the principal and only purpose of the Flame of Love of the Blessed Virgin. She, herself, promised an outpouring of graces so great as have not happened on earth since the Word became Flesh.
Jesus: “Satan blindness means the universal triumph of My divine Heart, the liberation of souls, and the opening of the way to salvation to its fullest extent.”
Mary: “Trust, at last, in my maternal power by which I will blind Satan and free the world from damnation.”
Moreover, there are actual graces granted in the devotion that give our prayer, adoration, and even our daily actions to power to blind Satan so others may see.
What Does Devotion to the Flame of Love Do?
The effect of devotion to the Flame of Love is to make our parishes, families, and lives so full of Jesus by the power of grace, that Satan’s influence on our families and surrounding communities is broken. Once freed from the blinding influence of Satan, our families and communities are much more open the gospel and the way of salvation. Thus we ask our Blessed Mother to:
“Spread the effect of grace of your Flame of Love over all of humanity”
The Flame of Love and Families
Families have a special place in the Flame of Love Devotion. Mary obtained the Flame of Love grace because Satan has launched his greatest attack ever especially targeting family.
The Flame of Love Devotion not only protects families but puts them on the offensive to drive out Satan’s influence. These family shrines of Jesus, the Flame of Love, by grace, will bring about the triumph of Mary’s Immaculate Heart.
“The Blessed Virgin revealed that the light of her Flame of Love filled not only me, but all my family members, and the Evil One could not lead them into sin. That is why their souls are strengthened and prepared to receive even more graces.”
Jesus: “She [Mary] did not want to perform a spectacular miracle as does occur in the large famous sanctuaries of the world, giving rise to great admiration. She wants every family to be a sanctuary, a wonderful place where, in union with you, she works miracles in the depth of hearts. Going from heart to heart, she places in your hands the Flame of Love of her heart. Through your prayers and sacrifices, it will blind Satan who wants to rule over families.”
The Flame of Love and Union with Jesus
By virtue of the great outpouring of grace in the Flame of Love devotion, it is a rocket ride to sanctity. Following the way of life described in the devotion quickly moves one to deep union with Jesus as we literally participate in His life. One of the few additions introduced by the Flame of Love devotion is Jesus’ Unity Prayer:
Then the sweet Redeemer asked me to pray with Him the prayer that expresses His deepest desires:
May our feet journey together.
May our hands gather in unity.
May our hearts beat in unison.
May our souls be in harmony.
May our thoughts be as one.
May our ears listen to the silence together.
May our glances profoundly penetrate each other.
May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father.
“I made this prayer completely mine. The Lord meditated on it many times with me, asserting that these are His eternal longings. He taught me this prayer, so that I would in turn teach it to others. With all our strength and mind, let us make our own His eternal thoughts and burning desires.”
Jesus: “This prayer is an instrument in your hands. By collaborating with Me, Satan will be blinded by it; and because of his blindness, souls will not be led into sin.”
Where did it come from?
Though many saints from Augustine to John of the Cross refer to The Flame of Love, the devotion is relatively new. In the early 1960’s in communist Hungary, Jesus and Mary introduced this devotion to a widowed mother of six and third order Carmelite named Elizabeth Kindelmann. They did not begin with a nun or a priest or a monk for a very specific reason:
Mary: “. . . I, the Mother of Mercy, entrusted you with the most excellent of my graces: to make my Flame of Love known to others. Why precisely you? I will tell you. Listen, my daughter, you are also the mother of a large family. Through your children you know all the pains and problems of a family. Many times you were close to falling beneath the cross of difficult trials, and you still experience many sorrows over your children. . . . I know you understand me, and this is why I shared with you how I feel in my motherly Heart. My sorrow is just like your sorrow.
There are many cold families like yours . . . I want the Flame of Love of my heart to warm them up and others . . . Only a mother can truly share my sorrows. I am the Mother of Sorrows, I suffer greatly because of the souls being lost. I am tortured in pain as I grieve for the suffering of my Divine Son.”
Is it Church approved?
Yes. The local ordinary, His Eminence Cardinal Péter Erdö, Primate of Hungary, established The Flame of Love Movement as a Private Association of the Faithful with Juridic Personality. That last phrase is important. Private Associations are not necessarily approved but any Association with Juridic Personality must be approved by a competent ecclesiastical authority. So though the Movement was established in Budapest, the approval is for the Universal Church.
Canon 322 – § 1 . A private association of the Christian faithful can acquire juridic personality through a formal decree of the competent ecclesiastical authority mentioned in can. 312. §2. No private association of the Christian faithful can acquire juridic personality unless the ecclesiastical authority mentioned in can. 312, § 1 has approved its statutes.
