Prayer Meditation- Lord, here we go- how many Lents have we given up some food or drink item, mindlessly, without even thinking of whether this is the sacrifice You are looking for? Some of us may need to give something up if it is getting in the way of Your best for us- certainty like Elizabeth, we should simplify and not just seek things just for the pleasure they provide. A little less lattes, cocktails, candy bars etc, ok, why not? We live in a consumer culture and it is right to reign it in during a penitential season. But Lord, I believe what You are truly seeking is a humble and contrite heart (Psalm 51). What good is it to give up some food item if we are using our mouth to gossip and judge others? Are we the perfect picture of piety at Daily Mass and a miserable wreck at home? Lord help us to balance with Your Wisdom the plan of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer that lead to a closer walk with You! Lord may our feet journey together with You this Lent all the way to the Cross- let us stand with Mother Mary consoling Your Heart full of so much love for us! Lord show us how to truly rend our hearts and not our garments (Joel 2:13) this Lenten season!
