Not As Foolish Persons But As Wise

Not As Foolish Persons But As Wise

Today’s Consuming Fire Meditation- – A Daily Dose of the Flame of Love Diary Served Up with Today’s Scriptures

Twentieth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Not As Foolish Persons But As Wise

From now on, you will be the representative of the souls of our parish community. This is a great task. Every day, you will recite the morning prayers in the name of the parish community; in the name of the fathers, the mothers, the young people, the indifferent children and the foolish elderly who, even now, do not even think about the end of their life. (Jesus) (August 28, 1962)

Today’s Readings: Brothers and sisters:
Watch carefully how you live,
not as foolish persons but as wise,
making the most of the opportunity,
because the days are evil.
Therefore, do not continue in ignorance,
but try to understand what is the will of the Lord. (Ephesians 5)

Prayer Meditation- O Lord we love You because today the readings focus on Wisdom. Wisdom is a gift of the Holy Spirit. It allows us to understand things from Your Point of View. And yet how many people today actually seek to activate the  wisdom You have given us. I would say most of us live life in our own heads and our own wills and even as we reach old age, the golden years, we still have not found wisdom as we live as if this life will never end. Living for retirement not eternity.  But we were not created for this temporal existence. And to live eternity minded, to put on Your Mind Lord, we so desperately need Your Wisdom in this very foolish world in these evil days. Lord that seems like a big ask if we have not called on the Holy Spirit for some time but You have given us an easy way to start. The key is the very first Reading. The Church has always linked the Wisdom literature, Lady Wisdom, with Our Blessed Mother. And we can picture Her calling out to us to turn to Her, whoever is simple and lacks understanding, as She implores us to forsake foolishness that we may live (Proverbs 9). She calls us home to You and to the Church, to the Sacraments and to the Eucharist so that we would have Your Life within us, Eternal Wisdom. Blessed Lady, place us where we belong in the Divine Fire, share with us Your Immaculate Conception.
