Holy Week Reflection – Tuesday: Walking with Jesus in the Hour of Darkness

As we walk with Jesus this Holy Week, He does not shield us from the reality of human weakness, even among His closest friends. He invites us into it—because it is here, in the painful tension between love and betrayal, between courage and fear, that His mercy is most illuminated.

Today’s Gospel (John 13:21–33, 36–38) brings us into the Upper Room—into the intimate and painful moments of betrayal and denial. Jesus, knowing His hour has come, is deeply troubled. Judas departs into the night, and Peter, full of zeal, promises to lay down his life—only to be told he will deny the Lord before the rooster crows.

To walk with Jesus means to stay with Him even when it gets uncomfortable, even when we see our own weaknesses exposed. It means to acknowledge the “Judas” within—our compromises, our hidden sins—and the “Peter” within—our good intentions that falter without grace.

Unity with Jesus and with one another is not automatic. It is a gift, yes, but one that must be desired, protected, and fought for in prayer, humility, and love. In these final days before the Cross, Jesus prays for this unity (John 17) because it is the sign of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.

So how do we walk with Him now?

By staying close in prayer, not fleeing the silence.
By accepting our need for His mercy.
By choosing to love, forgive, and remain in communion—even when it’s hard.

Holy Week is not just a remembrance—it’s an invitation. Will we go with Him into the garden? Will we stay awake at His side? Will we walk the way of the Cross—not perfectly, but honestly?

Let us walk with Jesus, not in our strength, but in surrender. And let our hearts cry out:
Adored Jesus, I want to stay with You. Even if I fall, do not let me run. Bind me to Your feet, let us walk together.

The life of Elizabeth Kindelmann stands out as a luminous witness of total union with Jesus. Through all her trials, humiliations, and interior suffering, she never left Jesus. She stayed at His side, even when the darkness around her was overwhelming. In the Flame of Love, Jesus entrusted her with a mission: to blind Satan and set souls free through the power of love and sacrifice. She said “yes” again and again, never turning away—even when misunderstood, humiliated, or abandoned.

Elizabeth truly walked with Jesus. She kept watch with Him. She burned with the Flame of His Love. She became one with Him in Mary’s Immaculate Heart.

As we journey through this Holy Week, will we walk as she did?
Not in our own strength, but in the strength of surrender. Not by hiding our weakness, but by letting Jesus transform it into mercy.

Let us pray…

My Adorable Jesus,

May our feet journey together.

May our hands gather in unity.

May our hearts beat in unison.

May our souls be in harmony

May our thoughts be as one.

May our ears listen to the silence together.

May our glances profoundly penetrate each other.

May our lips pray together to gain mercy from the Eternal Father.

Amen.
