God Forbid Lord

Today’s Consuming Fire Meditation- – A Daily Dose of the Flame of Love Diary Served Up with Today’s Scriptures

Memorial of Saint John Vianney

God Forbid Lord

I told Him: “Forgive me, my beloved Jesus. Did I not ask You to destroy the rough features of my soul?” He answered with a mild voice: Jesus: “My little daughter, you must love Me night and day.” (Elizabeth/Jesus) (1961-1962)

Today’s Readings: Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him,
“God forbid, Lord! No such thing shall ever happen to you.”
He turned and said to Peter,
“Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle to me.
You are thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.”

Prayer Meditation- O Lord it is so easy to be critical of Peter. There he goes again, foot in his mouth. What we would call these days as having “no filter”. And it is shocking at first to hear Your response to him. But then all it takes is a quick look in the mirror. Because most of the time we are not thinking as You do but as human beings do. Stuck in our own human wills. And how many times have we said the same when the cross, whatever cross You have chosen for us comes our way. Illness, financial troubles, family problems, you name it. We say, God forbid Lord that such a thing should ever happen. And we fight the cross that You have lovingly chosen for us- festy enough to consider cutting off someone’s ear and then cowardly enough to just run away and lick our wounds. This is us, every day of our lives, when we do not unite our will to Yours. But the good news is we can ask for grace every day for the plans that You have for us and we can love  and praise You night and day because if our focus is on You we will not sink under the waves when You call us to do what seems impossible!
